FAQ
What tracking methods are supported?
RANGE 3 supports feature, color, and marker tracking. RANGE 3 Pro additionally supports global marker tracking. Feature tracking uses the object's geometry, while color tracking uses surface color and texture to assist alignment. Choose according to the object's characteristics.
Are markers always required? Can RANGE 3 Pro scan without markers in laser mode?
Markers are not required for every scan. Both scanners support feature and color tracking. RANGE 3 Pro also supports color tracking in multi-line laser mode, enabling markerless scanning when the surface has texture details, or color variations.
Can the scanners be used outdoors?
Yes, the RANGE 3 and RANGE 3 Pro support scanning under ambient light up to 100,000 lux, meeting the lighting requirements for most indoor and outdoor scanning scenarios.
Can the RANGE 3 / RANGE 3 Pro scan the human body?
Both the RANGE 3 and RANGE 3 Pro utilize Class 1 infrared light. This is an invisible, eye-safe light source suitable for capturing human silhouettes, clothing, and digital avatars.
Is scanning spray needed for transparent or specular objects?
Yes. Use scanning spray when scanning transparent or specular surfaces with either scanner.
Is color scanning supported, and what does color tracking do?
Yes. Both scanners have a 1.3-megapixel RGB camera, two RGB fill lights, and two depth fill lights for capturing color and texture. Color tracking uses the color and texture features of the object surface to assist with scan registration. For objects with limited geometric features but rich patterns or color variations, it provides a more flexible and robust tracking method.
How should I choose between VCSEL and laser mode on RANGE 3 Pro?
Choose VCSEL mode for rapid overall capture of medium-to-large objects, a wider field of view, or a longer working distance. Choose 11 parallel infrared laser lines mode for finer local structures and better volumetric accuracy.
What are the differences between RANGE 3 and RANGE 3 Pro?
The main differences between RANGE 3 and RANGE 3 Pro are scanning technology, accuracy, minimum scan volume, tracking methods, and included accessories.
RANGE 3 uses VCSEL near-infrared structured light. RANGE 3 Pro adds an 11 parallel infrared laser lines mode on top of VCSEL near-infrared structured light.
For volumetric accuracy, RANGE 3 reaches 0.05 mm + 1 mm × L (m) in VCSEL mode. RANGE 3 Pro has the same VCSEL-mode volumetric accuracy and reaches 0.03 mm + 0.2 mm × L (m) in infrared multi-line laser mode. L is the object length in meters.
For recommended minimum scan volume, RANGE 3 supports 30 × 30 × 30 mm, while RANGE 3 Pro supports 20 × 20 × 20 mm, making it more suitable for detailed local structures.
For tracking methods, RANGE 3 supports feature, color, and marker tracking. RANGE 3 Pro additionally supports global marker tracking.
Which model should I choose?
Choose RANGE 3 for rapid capture of medium-to-large objects such as people, sculptures, furniture, and equipment exteriors. It features VCSEL scanning, color capture, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. Consider RANGE 3 Pro if you need fine detail capture, faster scanning speeds, and convenient mobile scanning accessories.
How are the scanners powered, and what is the Battery Grip's capacity and runtime?
RANGE 3 scanner can be powered directly by a PC or by the Battery Grip. The mobile kit is optional for RANGE 3 and included with RANGE 3 Pro. The Battery Grip has a capacity of 5000 mAh, provides up to about 3 hours of power support, and takes about 80 minutes to charge.
What software, operating systems, and connections are supported?
The compatible software is Revo Scan 6, with support listed for Windows 10/11 (64-bit), macOS 11.0 or later, Android, and iOS. Both scanners support Wi-Fi 6 wireless connectivity and come with a USB-C to USB-C (USB 3.0) cable for wired connections.
Can I measure dimensions directly in the software?
Yes. Basic measurement lets you select two points in point clouds, meshes, textured models, and 3DGS models to measure distance, verify key dimensions, check data before modeling, or confirm model scale. Results depend on scan quality and the accuracy of the selected mode. Revo Measure can support professional 3D measurement workflows.
What formats does Revo Scan 6 support exporting?
Revo Scan 6 supports exporting files in the following formats:
Point Cloud model: PLY, OBJ, ASC
Mesh model: PLY, OBJ, STL, FBX, GLTF, 3MF
Texture model: PLY, OBJ, FBX, GLTF
3DGS (3D Gaussian Splatting): PLY, Splat
Can the scanned models be used for 3D printing?
Yes. Output data from both scanners is compatible with 3D printing. Choose a suitable format such as STL, OBJ, or 3MF according to the slicer's requirements.
