FAQ
What’s the MetroY Ultra recommended scanning size?
Recommended scanning size ranges from 10 × 10 × 10 mm to 2 × 2 × 2 m, covering tiny parts to medium industrial components.
Does MetroY Ultra have a built-in battery?
No, MetroY Ultra requires the supplied power adapter or Battery Grip supply to power the scanner.
Does MetroY Ultra have cooling to maintain accuracy over extended scans?
Yes, MetroY Ultra's fans dissipate heat, keeping its temperature stable. Both the image sensor and CPU have real-time temperature sensors to compensate for small drifts and ensure accuracy.
Will multiple scans of the same surface area be more accurate than a single scan?
When using laser scanning modes, repeatedly scanning the same surface area is essential because scanning multiple times from different angles helps the model go green, which means a higher-quality model.
Can MetroY Ultra be used to scan people's faces or bodies in any available mode?
It is not advisable to scan the face in any mode, as direct laser exposure to the eyes poses a risk. However, scanning other body parts excluding the face at a normal working distance is considered safe. The software offers a real-time distance prompt to assist with this.
Can MetroY Ultra scan objects with electronic components? Will the laser damage the components?
Sensitive electronic components will not be harmed if they are kept at least 200 mm away. It is important to ensure that the components are not positioned directly next to the scanner's laser outlet, as this area has a high energy density from laser emissions.
Can I switch scanning modes during a scan?
Yes, but only within the same tracking mode. To do it, click the Finish button, select "Continue", switch to a different mode, and resume scanning. You can also configure the scanner's M-key setting on the Revo Metro. When using line laser scanning, you can switch between different line-laser types using the + and - keys.
What is the difference between MetroY, MetroY Pro and MetroY Ultra?
(1) Technical: MetroY uses multi-line laser technology; MetroY Pro and MetroY Ultra use multi-line laser and full-field blue light structured light technology.
(2) Scanning Modes: MetroY supports three handheld multi-line laser scanning modes: 30 cross-line lasers, 15 parallel laser lines, and a single-line laser mode. MetroY Pro and MetroY Ultra support five scanning modes: 34 cross-line lasers, 15 parallel laser lines, and a single-line laser, as well as a handheld full-field structured light mode and an Automatic Turntable scanning mode.
(3) Tracking Methods: MetroY only supports marker and global marker tracking. MetroY Pro and MetroY Ultra support marker and global marker tracking with laser line scanning, and both also support feature, marker, and global marker tracking with full-field structured light scanning.
(4) Scanning Speed: MetroY multi-line laser scanning supports up to 1,500,000 points per second. MetroY Pro multi-line laser scanning can reach up to 2,000,000 points per second, and its full-field structured light scanning supports up to 7,000,000 points per second, with a maximum scanning frame rate of 60 fps. MetroY Ultra multi-line laser scanning can reach up to 3,000,000 points per second, and its full-field structured light scanning supports up to 7,000,000 points per second, with a maximum scanning frame rate of 90 fps.
Can Revo Metro control the Large Turntable?
Yes. Here are three ways to use the Large Turntable:
(1) Connect the Large Turntable via the accessory menu in Revo Metro and control it using the Auto Turntable mode.
(2) Use its remote control for operation.
(3) Control the turntable's speed and direction via the mobile app Revo Assistant. Download it from your phone's app store or find it on Revopoint's website at revopoint3d.com/pages/support-download.
Do I need to purchase the software separately?
No, MetroY Ultra comes with free software called Revo Metro. It is compatible with Windows and macOS and allows you to scan, edit, merge, and import-export models offline.
Is it complicated to import the model data from Revo Metro into Revo Measure?
Revo Metro software supports one-click import of models to Revo Measure, with no complex operations required.
Can the 3D models be imported into design software?
Yes, Revo Metro offers various file formats compatible with most design software, such as Revo Design, QuickSurface, Geomagic, PolyWorks, Blender, Maya, Rhino, ZBrush, Fusion 360, etc.
Point Cloud model: PLY, OBJ, ASC
Mesh model: PLY, OBJ, STL, FBX, GLTF, 3MF
Texture model: PLY, OBJ, FBX, GLTF
Can I 3D print the 3D models created by MetroY Ultra?
Yes, the models can be exported in the STL, OBJ, and 3MF formats, which are compatible with most slicer software.
Is third-party scanning software available for MetroY Ultra?
No, it is only compatible with the Revo Metro software, which offers scanning and model-editing functions and can be downloaded from Revopoint's website.
