Using 3D sensors in robotic welding helps factories improve the weld quality and the laborious manual welding operation, which is particularly good for welding in a dangerous work environment with high temperature and fumes.
Revopoint’s Areascan series encompasses 5 models of different sizes of industrial 3D camera to capture objects at distances ranging from 50mm to 2m. It is able to scan objects in real-time and generate a color point cloud. It can offer accuracy as high as 0.05mm, enabling it to capture the precise position of 3D points.
Areascan can be installed on robot arms to automatically track weld seam and guide welding. In the picture below, An Areascan30 camera is installed on a robot arm to scan the seam between two 10×25 black metallic plates. The camera scans the whole area of the plates to track the seam precisely.
At the same time, the software displays the 2D RGB image and depth image. The 3D data will be processed on PC to get the XYZ information of the seam.
